The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received a fresh jolt as the long pending dispute of cancellation of the Hyderabad Franchise (Deccan Chargers) owned by Deccan Chronicles Holdings Ltd. (DCHL) has been held to be bad in law by the Arbitrator appointed by the Bombay High Court. DCHL was the successful bidder for the Hyderabad Franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2012 and a Franchise Agreement was signed for 10 years. The franchise, i.e. Deccan Chargers also successfully participated in the IPL Season I to IV and w on the second season held in South Africa in 2009 under the captaincyof former Australian wicket-keeper and batsman Adam Gilchrist . BCCI issued show cause notice of termination to DCHL on 16.08.2012 citing various breaches by the Franchise under the Agreement. [Breaking]: PIL filed before Bombay High Court to look into the real cause and the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Sushant Singh Rajput [Read PIL]

Image source: Google Images A Public Interest Litigation has been filed before the Bombay High Court by a lawyer/activist practicing in the Calcutta High Court. The Petitioner seeks direction to constitute a Special Investigation Team (“ SIT ”) consisting of officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (“ CBI ”) to probe into the allegations and conduct investigation and discover the truth behind the cause of death of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The points of contentions before the court are as follows- Bombay High Court’s power to transfer the pending investigation to the CBI or SIT or any other Central Investigation Agency. Transfer of investigation to the CBI, SIT or any Special Commission for Investigation and Inquiry of the present case by an independent agency will be the most effect way towards a free and fair investigation of the instant case, Read PIL here . Image source: Google Images The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 118 mobile apps (see Appendix) since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.
